We’re the go-to clinic for sleep consultants in Adelaide
It’s important for the whole family to get the right amount of sleep. If your little one’s overnight wakes are becoming more frequent, our team of naturopaths can work alongside your sleep consultant to find out why and help you navigate the journey to more restful nights.
There’s a reason Adelaide sleep consultants regularly refer to us
It’s normal for babies and toddlers to have trouble settling themselves to sleep – even outside of developmental milestones and passing sickness. However, sleeplessness is sometimes caused by a bigger issue that’s important to investigate. Everyone in your family deserves the right amount of rest, after all – including you!
Not only can sleep challenges impact your child’s development, but they can also cause significant distress and impairment in your little one’s functioning. Daytime fatigue, low energy, cognitive impairments, mood disturbances, and behavioural problems are all symptoms of inadequate sleep quality and quantity.
Our team of qualified naturopaths are often referred by some of the best sleep consultants in Adelaide, and they’ll keep digging until they find out what’s causing your little one’s restless nights. Whether you’re dealing with a 6-month-old waking every hour, 15-month sleep regression or 2-year-old sleep regression, we can help.
How we can help reset your little one’s sleep cycle
Unfortunately, it doesn’t take much to disrupt a baby’s (once perfect) sleep routine. A cold, a fever, teething pain, restless legs, or a mild ear infection can disrupt sleeping patterns, as can emotional challenges like parents returning to work or a new childcare routine.
Young children can manage small discomforts during the day, so it can be difficult to understand how something mild can cause so much havoc at bedtime. However, during the night there’s nothing to distract them from their discomfort, so this is when children become more aware of their distress.
We want to train kids to fall asleep independently when their core needs have been met – and it doesn’t have to be stressful. We typically treat frequent wakings by teaching gentle self settling strategies to children and their caregivers in consultation with sleep consultants.
What Causes Sleep Issues in Children?
Sleep disturbances can result from various underlying factors, including:
- Stress or anxiety
- Nutritional deficiencies, such as magnesium, B6, Vitamin D, Zinc, or iron
- Hormonal imbalances, including melatonin or cortisol dysregulation
- Food sensitivities or intolerances causing tummy pains overnight
- Poor sleep hygiene or irregular routines
- Environmental factors, such as noise or light exposure
- Medical conditions, such as reflux or sleep apnea

- Try putting baby to bed when they’re drowsy, but still awake
- Make clear distinctions between day and night
- Establish a short (less than 30 minutes) but regular sleep routine
Keep track of sleep disturbances
If your child’s sleep habits have never seemed quite right, or if you feel like getting back to the regular bedtime routine has become impossible, download the Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children (SDSC).
This checklist is the first step towards gaining a better understanding of your child’s sleep-wake cycle. You can bring the results to your next appointment to help us identify what may be causing broken sleep.
